School Shopping

So we did this thing the other day... and it kinda broke my heart.  We went school shopping for the first time as parents.

Ollie is thrilled with the idea of preschool and as his future preschool teacher, I am very much looking forward to getting to spend more time with him.  However, I just don't know where the time went and don't know how he can be old enough for this next step.

What is that phrase - The days are long, but the years are short.  I'm finding that to be so, so true!

My Name is Oliver and This is How You Spell My Name O-l-i-v-e-r!

With preschool quickly approaching, we have been practicing Ollie's name with him.

Kitchen Cabinet Remodel

After 3.5 - 4 weeks of work, I can finally say that the kitchen cabinets are D - O - N - E!

I started with a tsp substitute to clean them and some were pretty grimy.  Riley removed all the doors, drawers, and hardware.  Together we used a liquid sander to remove the gloss.  Next was 2 coats of primer followed by 3 coats of paint and the bit of touch up.

The kids' daycare was closed on a Friday and a Monday so they went to stay with Grandma and Grandpa.  We were able to get a large majority of the painting done when they were gone, one time even staying up until 2:30 am.

It was SO, SO much work, but I do love it and I'm glad that we did it.

Riley now says that he will not be doing any more projects until there is snow on the ground.  I'm okay with that!

Eleven Months Old

We've hit the 11 month milestone.  Miss Paisley is as busy as ever.  She loves to crawl around and follow her big brother wherever he goes.  Paisley can stand up on her own for a pretty big chunk of time and really wants to walk, but hasn't quite figured it out.  She will walk holding on to things so I'm sure walking independently is near.

She is a great eater and eats most everything that we give her.  She loves turkey, ham, and meatballs.  Since it's summer she has got to try lots of different fresh fruits and veggies, too, which she also seems to enjoy.  Most meal times she will keep herself busy eating for a good 30 minutes.  Often times she eats more than Ollie.  She doesn't have a well-check appointment until next month, but we weighed her on the bathroom scale and she was at 16.6 pounds.  She was 14 pounds, 10 ounces at her 9 month appointment so perhaps she has broken out of the 4th percentile.  We will have to wait for her one year well-check to find out.  She is still holding steady in her 3-6 month clothing.

Paisley has a mouth full of chompers.  She has 4 teeth on the top (the front two are just breaking through) and 2 teeth on the bottom.

As an early birthday presents we got her ears pierced.  While daddy and Ollie were at home painting on Sunday, mommy and Paisley went to Manhattan for a girls day.  Riley suggested that we go ahead and pierce her ears now since I very rarely go anywhere without both kids in tow.  She did really well and only cried for a couple seconds.

Independence Day

With Independence Day falling on a Wednesday this year we had a pretty low key day.  Clay Center shot off their fireworks on the 3rd so we made an evening of it knowing that we could sleep in the following day.

Ollie and Daddy took a little trip to the firework stand and got a few small goodies.  The smoke bombs were probably his favorite.

We ending up being able to see the firework show from the side of our house.  So we left Pais alseep soundly in her crib, grabbed a baby monitor, and headed to the side yard to enjoy the show.  About 2 minutes in Ollie started in with "Is it over yet?"  Apparently he wasn't too impressed.
