My 29th Birthday

We celebrated my 29th birthday this past weekend after a very eventful week.  I woke up on Tuesday covered in hives which was also the first night of parent teacher conferences.  After a morning at the doctor and some steroids in my system, I made it through the evening at conferences.

I've been fighting a terrible cold and I think that Riley may have over-Lysoled the house which caused an allergic reaction and hives.  I fought them all week and continued to wake up with them each morning, but they are finally gone.

On Saturday, we went to Manhattan for Mexican food at La Fiesta.
Nothing makes things better than a margarita.  Even Ollie agrees (don't worry, he didn't really drink any.)

On Sunday we met some family in Topeka at Longhorn's to celebrate again.
Obviously:  celebration = good food.

I still wasn't feeling the best, but it was nice to get out of the house and see everyone.

Ollie, of course, enjoyed Grammy and the birthday dessert best.

Books and Bedtime

We've got a pretty good routine going with Ollie before bed.  We do the bath thing (if it's bath night, we are on an every other day rotation), get jammies on, and brush teeth.  We tell Oliver that it is time to go nigh-nigh and he takes off for his bedroom.  He likes that he can get in and out of his bed on his own.

Riley and I sit with him near the bookshelf and look at books together.  He is getting pretty good at pointing to things that we say.  He also will point to pictures and name them.  His favorites are "shoes" and "pup".

Some days he insists that everyone have a book and other times he is fine with us all looking at one book together.

Lately, he has a whole bed full of stuff.  If we leave his puppy on the floor, it will undoubtedly be in his bed when we go check on him later in the evening.

His sleeping positions can be a bit odd, but he typically sleeps really well, so I won't complain.

Bye Bye High Chair, Hello Booster-ish Seat

We recently packed away another one of Ollie's baby things which really brings to light that this little boy is growing up.  We put away his highchair and switched to this booster like seat.

He obviously approves the new chair.
We've been using this seat for traveling when we go somewhere where there isn't a highchair.  Lately he hasn't liked his highchair as much and prefers to climb into a chair and kneel or stand so that he can be up to the table like the rest of us.
We've also got a little tray that can snap on it, if needed, but he really prefers to be at the table with everyone else.
On this particular day, giraffey had to join us.  (Giraffey is a naptime and bedtime necessity in Oliver's world.)  Apparently on this day, Giraffey was also a mealtime necessity.

Sink Bath

There comes a time in every baby's life where you are too old to take a bath in a sink...we have not yet reached that age. ;)
Every once in a while, I still give this handsome little guy a sink bath.  It allows me time to get the kitchen cleaned up while keeping him contained to a small space and getting him bathed at the same time.
He seems to enjoy the change too :)

Halloween Costume

Although a bit early still, Ollie has found his costume for Halloween this year.
We found this at a garage sale for like four bucks -- sold.
So far, he seems to like it and drags it out of the closet every now and then so we can put it on him.  I'm glad he likes it and am looking forward to taking this little dragon trick or treating for the first time.

Menards!

Like father, like son! :)

Fingerpainting Fun

Ollie and I did some painting this week so we could get them in the mail for Grandparent's Day.
To say he enjoyed himself is an understatement.
He loved it :)

Summer Review (part 3)

Okay, so here is the last of my summer review posts.  These are all from last week and weekend, but I figured I would just continue with this summer review and get caught up on blogging.  Although it feels like summer has been over for a while now with the start of school, I always feel like Labor Day really marks the end of summer.  I am very much ready for some cooler temperatures that fall will soon bring.

Here is my cheeseball on one extra smiley day.

I got this foam clown nose from one of my preschoolers on the last day of school.  It was one of Oliver's favorite this summer and he loved to wear it.

He'd put it on and just crack himself up.  (I wish I would have gotten a video, it was hilarious.)

I think it is probably headed for the trash soon, because he has worn it out so much that it is about to split in half.

Since school has started back up, Oliver and I have been taking walks after school.  We stopped at the little park at the community center and Ollie had a ball.

I don't know if it is the angle of the camera or what, but he looks so BIG.

(He is also sporting his new John Deere hat that daddy bought him.  It is still a bit big, but he loves it.)

Riley was out of town to Colorado for his cousin Nick's funeral on Friday and Saturday, so Ollie and I had a mommy/baby date on Friday night.  We ran some errands and ate supper at McAlister's.

I've never purchased a separate meal for Ollie, because he typically just eats off of our plate.  However, McAlister's had a $0.99 kids meal and the sandwich I ordered was probably too spicy for him, so I gave it a try.
He was in heaven!  He ate all of his applesauce and teddy grahams, some of his mac and cheese, and my pickle.

Apparently, that pickle was a bit sour at first :)

After McAlister's, our date continued at Orange Leaf where we shared some frozen yogurt.

He may have been a better date than what I am used to, haha ;)

Since Riley was still out of town on Saturday, Oliver and I went to Topeka to help Haley with her wedding planning.

He was super helpful and we actually got quite a bit accomplished.

We did some wedding shopping and ate lunch at Chili's.  Ollie was a black-bean-eating-machine.

Ollie continues to love tractors, cars, and trucks.  He definitely has the sounds mastered.

Jaime and Shelby recently returned from a Europe trip.  They brought us back many goodies.

Ollie's bear from Slovenia is so soft and he adores it.

We went to church in Manhattan on Sunday and Riley really wanted to eat McAlister's after seeing photos from Ollie and I's date.  We agreed to suck it up and eat there again.  (No complaints from either of us.)  Ollie had a strange way of eating his applesauce, as he would lean his head back for each bite.  Whatever works, I guess.

One of Ollie's biggest changes this summer came just this past Sunday.

We decided to try out removing the front of his crib and turn in into a toddler bed.  We were a little unsure, but figured that if it didn't work, we could always put it back on.  (And by we, I of course, mean Riley.  Riley can put it back on.  Hehe.)

So far, so good.  He's slept several times in it (naps & nighttime) and has done pretty well.  He came out 5-6 times at first, but he is getting it.  If we leave his door open a little crack, he gets up and closes it all the way.

Apparently last night, he was just too tired to make it back to his bed before falling alseep :)
