The kids and I ended up with an unexpected 3-day weekend this past weekend. Our daycare lady texted us on Friday morning telling us that she was sick. Riley had several meetings with customers lined up for the day and really couldn't miss work. With no back-up babysitter or family nearby, I had to stay home with the kiddos. (I hate to miss school, especially when I've used all my days up already due to maternity leave... but I will say it was nice to be home with these two cuties!)
Ollie loves to help me cook so we made mini pigs in a blanket.
Several times I called them pigs in a blanket and he thought that was so silly.... "No, mommy. They are hot dogs."
This little miss finally was able to have her first ponytail! She's got quite a bit of hair, but has lost a lot due to her rubbing her head around when she is sleeping.
It has been quite the week with the kids and I being sick at the beginning of last week, then snow days at the end of last week, followed by no school yesterday due to MLK day. Then to top it off, school got called off today as well because of frigid temperatures.
Last week, I only worked two days and this week I will only being working three days. I could get used to this whole stay-at-home mom thing! It's been nice to just be at home with the kids.
I've renamed this time "Christmas Break 2.0" as it has been the nice break I was hoping for at Christmas time, but even better with nowhere to go.
Since we still have plenty of snow on the ground Ollie and I made snow ice cream for dessert last night. I guess daddy had a part in it too...he was the one that went out in the freezing cold to gather the snow (and a leaf or two).
Ollie approves.
I thought snow ice cream would be a great way to end our unexpected 5-day weekend yesterday, but then it turned into a 6-day weekend with school being called off today...guess we will have to enjoy our leftover ice cream tonight.
We had an eventful week this past week as a bug hit the Richling house.
On Sunday evening Ollie said his tummy hurt so I sent him to the bathroom to try to go poop. He was in there for a while so I asked Riley to check on him. Riley found him laying on the bathroom rug and we knew that we were in for something. Oliver walked into the kitchen and threw up everywhere.
He got sick several times Sunday night and Paisley didn't seem to feel well either. I stayed home with both kiddos on Monday and then by evening time Ollie was back to normal and Paisley was throwing up. Riley stayed home with Pais on Tuesday.
Paisley's bug was also short-lived and she was back to her smiley self.
We thought the bug was gone for good until I came down with it on Wednesday evening. Luckily, Thursday ended up being a snow day so I didn't have to use a sick day. The kiddos went to daycare while I rested and recovered. Friday was also a snow day so I ended up with an unexpected 5 day weekend with school being closed today for MLK Day. It has almost seemed like Christmas break. (Actually I don't think I spent 5 consecutive days at home during Christmas break, so it has been nice to just be home.)
Ollie and I had an ice cream date after school when daddy was home with sick little Paisley.
Nice warm baths are wonderful all the time, especially when you don't feel good.
Someone likes to naps in his undies...and random toys.
Oliver had his first sledding experience this weekend. Mommy bundled and daddy sledded.
Every time somebody asks him about sledding.... "Did you have fun?" ....... "Yes!" "I cried!"
Mommy and Pais watched from inside the nice, warm house.
Oreo hot chocolate awaited the boys to warm them up after their sledding adventures.
Today, Ollie was suppose to be taking a nap and came downstairs saying that he wanted to snuggle. Who can say no to that?!
She's filling out her 3 month clothing with her chunky little legs. I'm not sure about her height and weight since she doesn't have an appointment this month. Both she and Oliver have well-checks in February so we will have to wait until then.
Unfortunately her sleeping hasn't gotten much better since she turned four months. She is getting up at least every three hours and sometimes even more often than that. We started cereal about a week ago hoping that would help her sleep better. It hasn't really helped, but we've had lots of sick germs around here and I don't think she's been feeling her best.
She can roll from both tummy to back and back to tummy. When she's put on the floor she's a little rolling machine...that is until she wears herself out and just puts her face down and cries.
One of the many reasons I decided to become a teacher was that I would have time off with my kiddos. With working summers for the past 6 years, I haven't gotten as much time as I originally planned, but it makes Christmas Break that much sweeter.
Christmas Break was filled with lots of traveling as we went back to Horton 3 weekends in a row (2 of them being extended weekends). This break was one of the busiest and I didn't get anything done on my to-do list, but I did get lots of time with my kiddos making memories and that's what is most important.
